Oh my goodness. If your idea of pampering and luxury is being waited on hand and foot, wrapped, soaked, scrubbed and bathed, well then this is the place for you. The Buckstaff Bath house offers a wonderful 'traditional bath' package at a very reasonable price. This even includes a 15 minute soak in the 104* mineral water after being scrubbed with a loofa mitt by your personal attendant. Then just as I was drifting into a comfortable sleep, it was time to get up and out of this huge old fashioned porcelain whirlpool tub and into a very hot sitz bath for about 15 minutes. This is very therapeutic for hips and low back. Next I was placed into one of those old fashioned steam cabinets. You know the type where only your head sticks out, I thought of Lucy the whole time I was in there which was only about 2 or 3 minutes. It was so hot in that box, I would have told them anything they asked me. We're not through yet.
Now they take you to a long row of tables, where you lie down and are wrapped neck to toes in hot towels, then an icey cold towel is placed on your forehead. This relaxation time lasts about 15 minutes. During this whole process you are given and strongly encouraged to drink the warm mineral water, but after the steam they switch to iced water to start the cooling off process. Once the towels are taken off we went into the "Cooling Room" and there you get into the needle shower. This is a shower with dozens of jets of cool water in a very fine spray, like needles, this lasts about 3 minutes. I felt like I had been run through a car wash.
Now for the best part, wrapped in a sheet once again, I was led into the massage room where I met Robin my masseuse. She was a lovely little woman probably about my age and had magic fingers. She gave the best Swedish massage I had ever had and I felt better in 25 minutes than I have ever felt after a full hour massage. It was great.
I thought this was one of the most delightful experiences I have had, being wrapped in a sheet between each treatment by my own persaonal attendant, then scrubbed, and waited on, it was a great way to spend 90 minutes of my life.
If I lived in or near Hot Springs, AR I would definitely make this a regular thing. I don't care if it is Bill Clinton's home town.
